NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING

The Greater Buffalo Niagara Regional Transportation Council (GBNRTC) will hold a public meeting in conjunction with its quadrennial Federal Certification Review, Thursday April 28, 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm at Central Library: 1 Lafayette Square, Buffalo, NY 14203.

The primary purpose of the certification review is to ensure that the required planning activities of 23 USC 134 and 49 USC 5303 are being satisfactorily implemented by the GBNRTC. This meeting will be your opportunity to talk directly with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) concerning your views on the transportation planning process in the GBNRTC area.

The U.S. Department of Transportation requires every Metropolitan area with a population over 50,000 to have a designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) to qualify for receipt of federal highway and transit funds. The GBNRTC is the designated MPO responsible for transportation planning in Buffalo-Niagara Metropolitan Area in the Erie and Niagara Counties.

The FHWA and the FTA, in accordance with 23 USC 134(k)(5)(A)(i) and 49 USC 5303(k)(5)(A)(i)(e) must certify compliance with these regulations by MPOs not less than once every four years.
